Hey, Rude Tutees! I (Liz Rodriguez) am trying out this new thing called blogging. I hear it's a thing. Basically, this will be a dumping ground for all of the fun, fabulous, weird, and super-weird things I find while finishing up researching and writing my dissertation. These are things that I find interesting but aren't quite meaty enough to justify a whole podcast episode.
Today's bit of history is this snippet from a 1617 legal record:
The center line says "sometymes a Tailor and sometime a wandringe fidler," describing one of the actors in this case. The formulaic introductions to these legal records often include information about the litigants like their hometowns and occupations. Looks like this guy was occasionally moved by the dulcet tones of the fiddle. What a job.
Stay tuned for more information about this particular record, which involves a couple of guys who just could not stop suing each other.
